Northern Highlanders closed the North Jersey boys basketball regular season by winning the 6th annual Bergen Invitational Tournament with a 39-34 victory tonight over NV/Demarest at Ridgewood.
Benny Haber scored 23 to help Northern Highlands become the first team to twice win the BIT and he was name tournament MVP. Jesse Adelson and Jake Runyon scored nine apiece for NV/Demarest.
In the third-place game, Ridgewood defeated Ridgefield Park, 60-49. Mike Schretter scored 21 for Ridgewood, and Isaiah Drakeford scored 20 for Ridgefield Park.
Also tonight, Bergen Catholic repeated as Bergen County Frosh titlist with a 53-41 win over St. Joseph, and Zack Freemantle led with 11 points. Chris Manon scored 11 for St. Joseph.
Meanwhile, Ramapo became the last North Jersey team to capture an outright division title, by virtue of Hackensack’s 58-51 loss Friday to Ridgewood.
