Don Bosco made its first appearance of the season in The Record Top 10, cementing a turnaround year for John Darcey’s team.
The No. 10 Ironmen got recent wins over DePaul and Mahwah, scoring well over 100 points in both. Freshman Holden Shatouhy had six overall wins and senior Tyler Zanki won the 100-yard breast stroke, his strongest event, in both meets. Zanki is the third seed in the 100 breast heading into Saturday’s Bergen County Meet of Champions.
It’s a crowded field at the bottom with Fair Lawn and Wayne Valley having strong credentials, but Don Bosco secured the final spot with head-to-head win over both.
The Ridgewood girls leapfrogged from ninth to No. 7, coming off a blowout win over Passaic Tech. The Maroons’ only losses so far are to conference powers Northern Highlands and NV/Demarest. They’ve been significantly underrated this season by yours truly.
And while the girls rankings don’t show it, Pascack Regional and NV/Demarest are really 3A and 3B. The Patriot division leaders tied at 85 so the Big North Championships on Thursday will determine who gets the edge.
As a reminder, the Bergen County Meet of Champions has been rescheduled to Saturday at 6 p.m. and the Varsity Aces blog and Twitter will have updates from Felix Festa Middle School.
