Calabrese leads Ramapo over Holy Angels by Brian Marron of The Record
DEMAREST – Ramapo senior Emily Calabrese finished with a career day in multiple ways on Saturday to lead the Raiders over Holy Angels, 47-25, in the second round of the Bergen County tournament.
Calabrese dropped 25 points, including her 1,000th career point, to go with 16 rebounds, four steals and three assists for Ramapo, No. 14 in The Record Top 25. After trailing 15-10 after the first quarter, Ramapo (10-5) went on to outscore No. 6 Holy Angels, 37-10 the rest of the game.
Tori Muller (seven points) was the only other Raider to add more than four points.
Elena Pulanco scored 13 points for Holy Angels (12-3), who failed to score in the fourth quarter.
Indian Hills 51, Northern Highlands 46
DEMAREST – No. 13 Indian Hills notched a big win in the second round of the Bergen County tournament over No. 10 Northern Highlands, thanks in large part to two double-doubles.
Senior guard Aileen Carey scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while fellow senior Amy Weisse scored 11 points to go with 10 boards. Junior forward Angela Sarich led her team with 14 rebounds while scoring eight points, and Alex Martins hit four threes en route to 14 points.
Indian Hills (13-4) bookended the game with two strong quarters to win. The team led 18-7 after the first, and finished by outscoring the Highlanders (12-7) 18-11 in the fourth.
Tori Reich led Northern Highlands with 11 points, and Kaitlyn Simpson scored 10.
Saddle River Day 70, Ridgefield Park 36
DEMAREST – Sophomore Jackie Wolak had 13 points, 11 steals and 10 assists to notch a triple-double for No. 3 Saddle River Day (12-2) in the second round of the Bergen County tournament.
Fellow sophomore Michelle Sidor hit six threes and finished with 32 points. Jenna Jordan added 12 points.
Kerri Tellian had 14 points to lead No. 20 Ridgefield Park (11-6).
Passaic 23, Clifton 22
CLIFTON – Sophomore guard Carmen Escano sank a free throw, giving Passaic the lead with 0.7 seconds left to earn a win in a Passaic County tournament preliminary. It was Passaic’s first win of the season.
Passaic (1-10) received six points from Ashley Ramirez to lead the team. Arianna Riley and Shahd Badeer led Clifton (7-11) with eight points apiece.
Boys Basketball
Teaneck 74, Germantown Academy (PA) 67
TEANECK – Ja’Quaye James connected on five threes and also made eight free throws en route to scoring a game-high 31 points for Teaneck (12-5).
Leondre Washington II scored 21 points, and Adrian Baucom scored 14 points to carry Teaneck, No. 4, offensively.
Passaic Valley 68, Lakeland 54
LITTLE FALLS – Tito Ramirez scored 23 points, and Nick Melograno hit five threes as part of 19 points to lead Passaic Valley (4-13) over Lakeland (5-13) in a Passaic County tournament preliminary.
Passaic Valley ran out to a 32-21 halftime lead to take control of the game. After Lakeland closed the deficit to five going into the fourth quarter, the Hornets scored 22 points to ice the game. Nick Williams helped with three threes to score 13 points for the game.
Boris Beric led Lakeland with 16 points, with Frankie Sierra (13 points) and Jason Foreman (11 points) chipping in. Each team made nine treys.
