Old Tappan

Host NV/Old Tappan halted Immaculate Heart’s 93-match winning streak versus Garden State foes.

The Golden Knights, No. 2 in The Record Top 20, defeated No. 1 IHA, 25-16, 29-27, tonight in Big North interdivisional girls volleyball.

Old Tappan (9-0) controlled the first set and in the second set erased an eight-point deficit against IHA, which had not lost to a Garden State school since 2012 and has won a record four consecutive Tournament of Champions titles.

“That [winning streak] speaks not only to the players on their current team, but obviously the players who came before, and their coaching staff has done an amazing job over there to have them consistently at that high level when they know that everybody is going to try to take their best swing at them,” Old Tappan coach Melissa Landeck said. “That’s something for them to be very proud of. On the other side of it, we’re proud that we had the opportunity and we seized it today.”
