Wallington (NJIC Meadowlands) and Harrison (NJIC Liberty) joined the ranks of teams that have clinched their division titles outright last week. Don Bosco (Big North United) and Wayne Hills (Big North Independence) each missed a chance to do the same, although they have already clinched at least a tie for their respective titles along with Ramapo (Big North Freedom).
But don’t cry too much for the Ironmen and Patriots. Wayne Hills. Wayne Hills stunned Clifton Saturday to win its first Passaic County title since 1995 while Bosco will face Cliffside Park in the Bergen County final looking for their record 12th county title and first since 2009.
There is talk that that Bergen final could be moved from its current schedule Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Indian Hills because it conflicts with Bosco’s football showdown with rival Bergen Catholic the same night. Stay tuned here and to the Varsity Aces twitter feed twitter.com/varsityaces for the first word if there is any change.
Continue reading below to see the standings based on information called into The Record and the scenarios for the division titles still being contested.
The Big North Freedom is the easiest scenario as Ramapo will head up to Northern Highlands today needing a win or a tie over the Highlanders to clinch the title. A win by Highlands will force a tie for the division title.
Wayne Hills, which missed its chance to clinch the Independence title outright when it tied Passaic Valley last week, needs a win over West Milford or a loss or tie by Lakeland against Wayne Valley to clinch the title.
Bosco, which missed its chance to clinch the United title when it lost to Bergen Catholic last week, needs help from St. Joseph and Paramus Catholic if it hopes to win the title outright. Bergen Catholic faces St. Joseph Thursday and DePaul has Paramus Catholic Thursday and St. Joseph Saturday. Both need to win out (a tie would knock them out) if they hope to tie Bosco atop the division.
Hawthorne Christian, which trails Waldwick by a game in the Colonial, could still win the title outright if they beat Emerson Thursday and Waldwick loses to Cresskill Thursday and Park Ridge Saturday.
The murkiest battle remains in the NJIC Colonial where Hawthorne tops the standings at 13-1 in the division. The Bears, Pompton Lakes (2 division losses) and Garfield (3 division losses) Â each have two division games remaining and Glen Rock (3 division losses) has four. The murky part comes in when you factor in the two ties that Pompton and Garfield have against each other.
