Northern Highlands, shown here after breaking the record for longest winning streak in state history, isn’t where you might think in the latest power point standings. The Highlanders, winners of 64 straight games and the two-time defending Group 3 champs, are in the No. 2 spot right now in North 1, Group 3.
The newest power points were released today and the brackets should be finalized within the next week or so. As of now, North Jersey has five teams currently atop their respective sections with No. 1 seeds — Wayne Hills (North 1, Group 3), Pascack Hills (North 1, Group 2), New Milford (North 1, Group 1), Immaculate Heart (North, Non-Public A) and Lyndhurst (North 2, Group 2).
Current No. 2 seeds: Clifton (North 1, Group 4), Northern Highlands (North,1  Group 3) and Hasbrouck Heights (North 1, Group 1).
Current No. 3 seeds: Ramapo (North 1, Group 3), Ramsey (North 1, Group 2), Park Ridge (North 1, Group 1), Paramus Catholic (North, Non-Public A) and Eastern Christian (North, Non-Public B).
Current No. 4 seeds: River Dell (North 1, Group 3), Kinnelon (North 1, Group 2), Waldwick (North 1, Group 1) and DePaul (North, Non-Public A)
Here’s a breakdown of the the possible contenders for sectional titles…Â
Note: Red indicates teams in our coverage area. And records are supplied by the NJSIAA and do not include most of Monday’s results.
NORTH 1, GROUP 4
1. Montclair (17-1) 380 — The recently-crowned Essex County champions after a 1-0 win over Livingston. From everything I’ve read and heard, Montclair is the clear-cut team to beat in this bracket. Brittany Cooper leads the team in scoring with 21 goals and Jillian Jennings has six goals and a team-best 12 assists.
2. Clifton (15-3) 332.5 – The Mustangs remain in the No. 2 spot even after falling to Wayne Hills, 1-0, in Saturday’s Passaic County final. After a 14-1 start, Clifton has lost two of its last three games (IHA and Wayne Hills). Still, no team in the state tournament will be happy to draw Clifton — a perennial contender that felt it was good enough to win a state title this summer… and likely still does. Marisa Ale has 23 goals on the year and goalkeeper Rachel Egyed is among the best in the state in net. Remember, Nicole Rzekiec came about a foot away from tying that PCT final with Wayne Hills on a free kick in the second half.Â
3. Livingston (12-3-1) 331.75 — Essex County finalist… lost to Montclair, 1-0. Jordy Bonvini leads a very balanced offense with 8 goals and 10 assists.
4. Randolph (14-2-2) 286.25 — Co-Champions in the Morris County Tournament after tying West Morris, 1-1, last week.
5. Kearny (16-4-1) 285
6. Roxbury (9-5-2) 264.25
7. Ridgewood (11-5-1) 264 – Currently in the No. 7 spot and the Maroons could be a serious threat in this bracket. As of now, Ridgewood is the only team to beat IHA and also played undefeated Northern Highlands tough twice this year. All five losses are to either Highlands or Ramapo this season. Darby Kiernan leads Ridgewood in scoring with 18 goals and 5 assists.
8. Fair Lawn (10-6) 263
9. Memorial (11-5-1-) 235.25
10. Wayne Valley (7-6) 229.5 – Another interesting team in this bracket. The Indians are better than their record indicates, and just beat a good Lakeland team, 2-0, last week. Kelly and Keri Wieczerzak are two of the Indians’ biggest offensive threats and Wayne Valley has the potential to be a sleeper team in this section. I saw them give Wayne Hills all it could handle a few weeks ago in a 1-0 loss.
11. Morris Knolls (9-7-2) 191
12. Bergen Tech (9-8-1) 184.5
13. Bloomfield (4-10) 180.5
14. Belleville (10-7) 162.5
15. Union City (8-10) 140
16. Passaic Tech (6-8-2) 133
The rest:Â North Bergen (7-13) 124.5; West Orange (3-14) 123.5; Hackensack (0-16) 90; Eastside (2-10) 85; Passaic (0-13) 80; Kennedy (0-0) 0.
NORTH 1, GROUP 3

Wayne Hills, the Passaic County champion, currently sits atop North 1, Group 3 after 15 straight wins.
1. Wayne Hills (15-1) 379.5 – The recently-crowned Passaic County champion Patriots currently have a sizable 42.5-point advantage for the top spot over undefeated Northern Highlands, and I think it might stay that way if I’m understanding the power point system correctly. I’m really interested to see if Hills can be competitive with some of Bergen County’s best, because the Patriots have an abundance of playmakers… and a 15-game winning streak. Their coach Greg Rehberger says they’re better than last year’s sectional semifinalist squad, but in recent years, Hills hasn’t fared very well against Bergen powers in the state tournament. Will that change this year?
2. Northern Highlands (16-0) 337.0 – Is it fair that Highlands, the two-time defending Group 3 champions and winners of a state-record 64 straight games, might have to play a sectional final on the road in Wayne Hills? No, not really. Not only that, but because they could potentially be the 2-seed, they’d likely see a familiar foe — Ramapo — in the sectional semis. Regardless of what seed Highlands draws, it will be the big favorite to three-peat in a very tough section. Clare Shea and Hana Kerner each lead the team in scoring with 10 goals a piece.
3. Ramapo (13-3) 292.5 – The Raiders won’t get that coveted third matchup with Highlands in the BCT final after falling to IHA on Sunday, but they could see their rival again in the state tournament. 100-career goal scorer Caroline Chagares is the star, leading the Raiders in scoring with 18 goals and six assists.
4. River Dell (11-5-1) 283.75 – After an 0-2 start (losing to Pascack Hills and Mahwah), River Dell is 11-3-1 in its last 16, including a 1-1 tie in the rematch with Pascack Hills and a 2-0 win over Mahwah in the second meeting between the two league rivals. Rachel Sorkenn leads the Hawks with 24 goals and 11 assists.
5. Old Tappan (14-3) 280.5 – Old Tappan has suffered losses to only Ridgewood, River Dell and Pascack Valley this season, and two of those (RD and PV) were one-goal losses this month. Emily Crevani leads OT with 23 goals and 7 assists.
6. Mahwah (10-5-1) 276.0 – The Thunderbirds play in the competitive Big North Patriot — against the likes of Pascack Hills, Ramsey and River Dell, but still remain five games over .500. Sarah Jordan leads Mahwah in scoring with 11 goals and Emily Jordan has proven to be an offensive threat, too, with six goals and eight assists.
7. Lakeland (13-4) 254.5 – Three of the Lancers’ four losses this year have been to this section’s current top seed — Wayne Hills — and two of them were by one goal. Their only other loss came against Wayne Valley, 2-0, on Oct. 21. With an offense featuring Danielle Stoll, Bre Renshaw and Carly Nichols, Lakeland has the talent to make a run in a super competitive bracket.
8. Montville (10-7-2) 226.50
9. Pascack Valley (11-6-1) 216
10. Mount Olive (9-8-1) 214.25
11. Indian Hills (7-10-1) 196.25
12. Paramus (8-8-2) 194.75
13. Sparta (7-7-2) 189.5
14. Demarest (10-7) 186.5
15. Jefferson (7-8-3) 159.0
16. Bergenfield (4-10-1) 140.5
The rest: West Milford (6-12) 136.5; Tenafly (4-11-1) 108.5; Teaneck (1-17) 98; Vernon (1-16) 78; Garfield (0-13) 71; Englewood (0-14) 67.
NORTH 1, GROUP 2
1. Pascack Hills (12-1-2) 329.75 — Pascack’s only loss this year came in the second round of the BCT as the 6-seed, 3-2, to 11-seed Paramus Catholic. They’ve also tied with River Dell and Ramsey, but beaten both teams this year, too. Brianna Musco leads the team in scoring with 22 goals and 10 assists. Devon Willock has added 10 goals and 8 assists.
2. Newton (19-0) 316.0 — The Sussex County school is undefeated and might be the favorite in this section after just knocking off Non-Public power Pope John, 3-2, in double overtime in Saturday’s Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex Tournament semifinals. This team is from my neck of the woods and their star player is Alyssa Cronin, who I covered a bit two years ago as a freshman. She’s only a junior, already is Newton’s all-time leading scorer (84 goals, 44 assists), and recorded a hat trick on Saturday.
3. Ramsey (12-1-3) 310.25 – The Rams will no doubt be contenders in this section. They gave Ridgewood all it could handle in last week’s BCT quarterfinals, falling in PKs. They’re only loss in regulation this year came to the section’s current top seed, Pascack Hills, back on Oct. 10. And they have a very balanced offense, led by Geeja Martone (11 goals), Kailey O’Keefe (8), Courtney Dadinos (6), Anna Jensen (6) and Kelly Redl (6).Â
4. Kinnelon (14-4) 289.0 – The Morris County semifinalists (lost to West Morris, 1-0) are led by senior Ingrid DiClemente, who has scored a team-best 26 goals and added eight assists. One of the more interesting results from Kinnelon came on opening day… a 2-1 loss to N1, G4 top seed Montclair. The Colts are dangerous.
5. Glen Rock (13-2-1) 276.75 – The defending Group 2 champs are flying somewhat under the radar. They’ve suffered just two losses this year — once to Mahwah, 1-0, in the 2nd round of the BCT and once to Pompton Lakes on Oct. 22, 1-0 in overtime, in a game where Pompton Lakes’ goalie Daniella Lucca made 17 saves. Don’t sleep on ‘Rock.
6. Pequannock (11-8) 276.0 – The record might be a bit deceiving, but Pequannock is a good team that plays a tough schedule in a tough county. Everything goes through Stony Brook-bound Kendall Machak with this team, but Carly Klimek and Dana Scillieri have both proven to be capable scoring threats, too.
7. Hawthorne (11-3-3) 227.5 – A few weeks ago, someone tweeted to me that Hawthorne was going to win states. I’ve really been meaning to get to one of their games, because the Bears are an interesting team. They have a ton of shutouts this year with goalkeeper Madison Noordeloos in net, they tied Glen Rock, 0-0, and they beat Pompton Lakes, 3-0, earlier this year (and just tied PL, 1-1, today). It’s a tough section, but Hawthorne could make some noise.
8. Morris Tech (14-3-1) 206.0
9. Lodi (10-6) 203.5
10. North Warren (9-5-3) 197.5
11. Lenape Valley (8-6-2) 191.5
12. Westwood (7-10) 177.0
13. High Point (5-11-1) 175.75
14. Dumont (8-7-1) 175.5
15. Mountain Lakes (7-11-1) 163.5
16. Wallkill Valley (7-7-3) 128.75
The rest:Â Becton (8-8) 121; Dover (3-13-1) 102.5; Sussex Tech (6-10) 98.5; Kittatinny (3-13-1) 87.5; Hopatcong (1-17) 83; Manchester Regional (1-9) 69; Elmwood Park (0-10) 66.
NORTH 1, GROUP 1

New Milford’s Cydney Borner, Erin Bigger and Alexis Monroy, shown here celebrating Monday night’s 4-1 win over Lyndhurst, clinching the league title.
1. New Milford (12-4) 283.5 — The Knights are barely holding on to that No. 1 spot right now, currently just 2.5 points ahead of Hasbrouck Heights for homefield advantage throughout the tourney. Like N1, G2 and N1, G3, this bracket is filled with North Jersey teams and seems pretty wide-open with no clear-cut favorite. New Milford just captured the league title with a 4-1 win over Lyndhurst, and Cydney Borner (26 G, 13 A) and Alexis Monroy (24 G, 11 A) have been the catalysts, combining for 50 goals and 24 assists, while Erin Bigger has added 8 goals and a team-best 14 assists.
2. Hasbrouck Heights (14-2) 281 – The Aviators’ only two losses this year came against Pascack Valley and Lyndhurst, and if they see New Milford in states, they’ll know they can play with — and beat — the Knights after defeating them, 2-1, on Sept. 20. Maggie Filja is Hasbrouck’s top offensive threat with a team-best 28 goals, while Kristen Delcalzo has added 13 goals.
3. Park Ridge (13-3-1) 272.25 – Mikaela Heyboer leads the Owls in scoring with 19 goals, Shayna Bohus has added 16 goals and 9 assists and Madeline Clancy has supplied a team-best 13 assists. Park Ridge has also beaten New Milford earlier this season, 4-3, on Oct. 4. They’ve only lost to Paramus, Pequannock and Nutley this season and certainly are capable of making a deep run in North 1, Group 1.
4. Waldwick (10-3-2) 253.5 – According to our database, Waldwick has only scored 32 goals in 15 games (including 8 goals in a win vs. Saddle River Day and 16 goals in its last 3 games), but it has managed to make the goals count en route to a 10-3-2 record. They’re only losses are to Lyndhurst, Park Ridge and Midland Park, but they split the season series with MP and tied Park Ridge in their season opener. Erin Archer and Erin Cunneely appear to be Waldwick’s biggest offensive weapons.
5. Emerson Boro (11-6) 227 – Devin Riker (9 goals) and and Melanie Whited (7 goals) have combined for 16 goals and eight assists this season. The Cavos started the year 5-0, but have gone 6-6 since a 3-0 loss to Waldwick on Sept. 25.
6. Belvidere (11-2-3) 224.25
7. Pompton Lakes (12-6) 197.0 – The Passaic County semifinalists are a definite sleeper team in this bracket. The Cardinals have beaten some quality teams this year, like Glen Rock, Wayne Valley and Eastern Christian… and even gave Clifton all it could handle in last week’s PCT semifinal. Jenn Pezzuti leads Pompton in scoring with 15 goals and 12 assists, but it’s the play of Christine Cottrell (8 G, 8 A) and Danielle Jenkin (8 G, 8 A) that make the Cardinals go. Keep an eye on this team.
8. Cedar Grove (11-4) 196.0
9. Butler (12-4-1) 188.5
10. Saddle Brook (11-6) 188
11. Midland Park (7-6) 182
12. Wood-Ridge (9-9) 157
13. Cresskill (5-10) 147
14. Verona (2-11-1) 141.75
15. Boonton (3-12) 120.5
16. Paterson Charter (0-9) 48
The rest: Bergen Charter (0-0) 0; Bogota (0-0) 0; Ridgefield (0-0) 0; West Caldwell Tech (0-0) 0.
NORTH, NON-PUBLIC A
1. Immaculate Heart (14-1) 355.5 – Before the Blue Eagles begin their quest for a state title, they’ll get their much-coveted showdown with undefeated Northern Highlands for Bergen County supremacy. As my colleague Brian Giuffra has written recently, many believe that it’s IHA who has the best chance to take down Highlands — possibly ending their state-best winning streak and winning a county title simultaneously. I saw them vs. Clifton last week, and IHA was very, very impressive. And that was without Camille Didio (out with an illness), who Brian said was the best player on the field in Sunday’s win vs. Ramapo in the BCT semis. IHA has weapons all over the field, like Alex Mesropyan, Jacqueline St. John, Erin Spillane, Molly Younghans. Can they pull off the upset Saturday?Â
2. Pope John (16-4) 271.5 — The Sussex County school just lost a double overtime thriller, 3-2, in the HWS semifinal to undefeated Newton — the No. 2 seed in North 1, Group 2.
3. Paramus Catholic (8-8) 271.0 – The Paladins have played a brutal schedule, so don’t be deceived by their 8-8 record. PC has played IHA twice (losing once to them, 1-0), Northern Highlands and Ramapo each once, Lyndhurst and Pascack Hills (both No. 1 seeds in their respective sections at the moment), Old Tappan once, and a good DePaul team twice. Julianna Mascelli leads PC in scoring with 12 goals and 3 assists.Â
4. DePaul (7-5-1) 222.25 – The Spartans are young, but dangerous. They’re schedule is tough, just like any Big North United team, but DePaul has playmakers. Melissa Kelly, Laura Kachidurian, Sophia Vogel and Hunter Crespo, with senior Tiffany Martinez in net, give the Spartans a chance against anyone.
5. Kent Place (6-7-2) 190.0
6. Holy Angels (5-8-2) 188.25 — Another victim of a very tough schedule in the Big North United, but Holy Angels can play with some of the top teams in this bracket, evident by a 5-3 win over PC on Oct. 21 and a close 1-0 loss to IHA back on Sept. 16. Amanda Grisanti looks like AHA’s leading scorer with 8 goals this year.
7. Mount St. Dominic (8-8-1) 181.75
8. Union Catholic (4-9-3) 157.25
9. St. Dominic (9-8) 152.0
10. Mother Seton (6-10) 139
11. St. Vincent (0-0) 0.
NORTH, NON-PUBLIC B
1. Villa Walsh (12-5-1) 264.5
2. Morris Catholic (11-5) 243.5
3. Eastern Christian (13-5) 218 – As of now, Eastern Christian has the most wins of any team in this bracket, but it doesn’t appear it can jump Villa Walsh or Morris Catholic in terms of power points. Regardless, this team can score. Erin Vander Plaat had continued her dominant freshman season, currently with 29 goals and 15 assists. Playmaking forward Jenna Struyk is second on the team in points, with 20 goals and 10 assists. And Alyssa Botbyl has supplied 15 assists, too.Â
4. Montclair Kimberley (12-5) 199.5
5. Dwight-Englewood (6-6-2) 193.25 – Dwight-Englewood plays in a NJIC Liberty division that has been controlled by New Milford and Lyndhurst (two section leaders right now), but Taylor Krakower has put together a fine season, currently with a team-best 17 goals.
6. Queen of Peace (6-7-2) 180.0
7. Oak Knoll (6-11) 172.5
8. Immaculate Conception (7-7) 169 – The Blue Wolves have been overshadowed by Hasbrouck Heights and Saddle Brook in the NJIC Meadowlands, but Amanda Saab has struck for 14 goals and four assists for an IC team hovering around .500 as the state tournament approaches.Â
9. Golda Och (8-5) 155.0
10. Morristown-Beard (7-9) 142.0
11. Newark Academy (3-8-2) 140
12. Mary Help of Christians (2-9-1) 135.5
13. Saddle River Day (2-10) 98

NORTH 2, GROUP 2
1. Lyndhurst (14-2) 321.0 — Just saw Lyndhurst lost today, 4-1, to New Milford in what was essentially a league championship game. Still, the Bears have a huge lead in terms of power points for this section’s top seed and will likely enter the tournament as the favorite to win a sectional title. Seems like Amanda Nowak scores every game — she has 22 goals on the year — and Grace Tomko isn’t too far behind, with 16 goals and 10 assists. Grace DiTonto leads the team with 17 assists, and Dina Ingenito leads North Jersey in Varsity Aces’ Twitter mentions after every game. On a more serious note, though, Ingenito is a great sweeper (from what I’ve read), earning All-NJIC Liberty honors in 2012. Lyndhurst has only lost to New Milford (twice) and Paramus Catholic this year.
2. Science Park (12-2) 259.5

5. North Arlington (7-9) 173.0 – North Arlington won again today, 5-0, over Immaculate Conception and have been playing much better as of late. After falling to 2-6 on Sept. 30 after a 5-game losing streak, North Arlington has won six of its last nine games. Taylor Barth (10 goals, 6 assists) and Joanna Seca (9 goals, 11 assists) are two of NA’s top offensive threats.
