Andrew Trumbetti looks for¬
ward to a special year ahead filled
with individual accomplishments
and exciting moments. But beyond
the highlights he will create on the
field he wants to help turn De¬
marest into a genuine league and
playoff contender.

“I’m just focused in on making
enough of an impact to help us
win as many games as we can and
go as far as possible in the postsea¬
son,” said Trumbetti. “I’ve played
11 years of football with some of
my teammates, all the way back to
first grade. I want the final year to
be really be the most memorable
of all.”

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Trum¬
betti is one of the top defensive
ends in North Jersey and is adept
at both stopping the run and put¬
ting pressure on the quarterback in
passing situations. On offense he
will move from his normal tight
end slot to tackle to bolster the
Norsemen offensive line.

“Whatever is best for the team is
the best for me,” said Trumbetti,
who has given a verbal commit¬
ment and will play at Notre Dame
starting in September of 2014. “I
love hitting and tackling and
blocking from a different spot on
the offensive line won’t make
much of a difference for me. Con¬
tributing to winning games is real¬
ly all that matters.”

The Norsemen went 4-6 last
year after they were 7-3 in Trum¬
betti’s sophomore season in 2011
and 4-6 when he started as a fresh¬
man in 2010. The last time De¬
marest made the playoffs was in
2005 when the Norsemen fell to
Wayne Valley, 12-3, in the North
1, Group 3 quarterfinals.

Demarest will also seek to make
inroads in the Big North Confer¬
ence National against tough oppo¬
nents like defending division
champion Old Tappan, along with
Lakeland, Tenafly and Indian
Hills. And Trumbetti will be a ma¬
jor factor in a Demarest’s bid for
2013 success.

“Andrew leads by example, he
practices hard and plays the same
way in games, he has a lot of cred¬
ibility that way with the rest of the
team,” said Demarest coach Tony
Mottola. “He has a great deal of
intensity and he brings that aggres¬
siveness and emotion every single
time. He makes positive things
happen and that positive attitude
rubs off on his teammates.”

Also a track & field standout,
Trumbetti is an All-American in
the shot put. He will attempt to set
the new school record and also
win a state title in that event this
coming year. Demarest coach
Mike Theuerkauf, who threw 62-
6¾ at the State Meet of Champi¬
ons in 1988 to win the gold medal,
holds the current school mark.

Trumbetti had a 61-8 in the shot
put at the indoors Eastern States
championship at the New York
City Armory, finishing second be¬
hind national champion Braheme
Days Jr. of Bridgeton. Outdoors
Trumbetti had the No. 1 North
Jersey 2013 performance with a
60-2½ in the shot put and also was
tops in the discus with a 177-3
toss.

“Andrew is strong and powerful
and he’s as steady as they come
and fundamentally sound on all of
his throws,” Theuerkauf said. “If
everything clicks in right for him
his senior year could be really
spectacular. He’s capable of some
extraordinary achievements.”
