June 12, 2013 (WAYNE, NJ) – DePaul Catholic High School announces that Joseph White of the class of 2014 will be representing DePaul Catholic at the New Balance Outdoor Track Nationals the weekend of June 14. He will compete in the Emerging Elite 400m race on Friday, June 14th. White was invited into the Championship 800m race on Sunday, June 16th.

This year has been an astounding one for White, a first year spring track athlete at DePaul Catholic. A baseball player for the Spartans for his first two years, White questioned whether or not he would choose track or baseball until the last second.

White, who ran winter track his freshman year, returned back to indoor track this year where he stunned everyone by running 51 seconds in his first indoor 400m (FDU Holiday Classic). Weeks later, he won the Big North United Conference 400m. After a disappointing false start and disqualification in the Indoor Group Meet 400m, he competed in his first 800m race, running a 2:07.

White, a Clifton resident, finished first in the Group Championship, leaving the meet with two medals and a meet record. He placed third in the Non-Public A 400m (48.4), and captured the gold in the 800m with a 1:51.7, more than a two and a half second P.R. and a new Non-Public A Group Meet record.

“Joe has a perfect blend of natural talent, hard work, and obedience, making him a great athlete and honor to coach,” coach Ron Triolo said.
