Ramsey

Got some more info on Ramsey’s come-from-behind win over No. 15 Pascack Hills. First, the Rams snapped Hills’ five-game winning streak with their 5-4 victory and improved to 9-2 overall, and more importantly, 4-1 in the Big North Patriot. Second, Abby Triglia is clutch. And third, there were plenty others who played a role in Ramsey’s five-run sixth…

I asked Ramsey coach Chris Caserta to provide some details on the thriller and here’s what I got. Devin Hadeler got things started with a leadoff single in the sixth, but the Rams would would record consecutive outs after back-to-back great defensive plays from the Pascack Hills’ middle infielders on potential hits from Melanie Consiglio and Kayla Gravalis. Cleanup hitter Nicole Mazzella steps up, trailing 4-0 with one on and two outs in the sixth, and rips one up the middle. Rams SS Sophie Blasius followed Mazzella’s single with a single of her own. So now the Rams had bases loaded, two outs, when senior 2B Megan Bencivenga chopped one through the middle for bring home the Rams’ first run of the day. And that set the stage for Triglia. This is how Caserta described it: “Triglia takes strike one over the outside corner. The next pitch, Triglia jumps all over and deposits over the left-field fence for the go-ahead grand slam. Ramsey leads, 5-4.”

“It was a great game for both teams,” Caserta said in the e-mail, singling out Pascack Hills shortstop Brianna Musco for making several nice plays in the field. “Solid defense and well-timed hits from both sides.”

Jess Juhlin started the game (going 4.1 innings), and Katie Olson finished, getting the last eight outs and the win.
